Black Second-Chance Football Romance

The Sweetest Return

Before stadiums chanted his number, Andre β€œDre” Jones was the boy at August Wilson University who learned Imani Bennett’s dreams and became her first love.

Then graduation gave them two futures too big to fit inside the same plan. Imani chose a dream opportunity in New York rather than build her life around wherever football sent him. Dre loved her too much to ask her to shrinkβ€”and was too young and proud to tell her how badly letting her go broke him.

Eight years later, Imani is back in Pittsburgh, helping shape the future of a Black-owned luxury jewelry house. Returning to her HBCU for Crown Weekend should be nostalgia, networking, and proof she can finally come home without unraveling.

Then Dre walks into the room.

He’s a retired professional football star, a successful businessman, and still the only man who knows how to reach every part of her. The chemistry comes back hot, and one night proves their bodies never learned how to forget.

But wanting each other was never the hard part.

This time there are demanding careers, travel, fame, old fears, and a public that thinks Dre’s life belongs to them. To keep the love they found again, Imani and Dre will have to trust that grown love can hold two big lives without asking either one to become smaller.
